Accessibility statement

Scope and commitment

This statement covers the public Embu College website and the content and controls managed by Embu College. We aim to make information usable by people with different visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, language, and learning needs, while recognising that accessibility is an ongoing process.

Standards and basis

Our work is informed by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), progressive enhancement, semantic HTML, responsive design, keyboard operation, readable content, and user feedback. We do not claim that every page currently conforms at every success criterion; this statement describes the direction and practical support available.

• Meaningful headings, labels, link text, alternative text, and page structure where content supports them.
• Visible focus treatment, responsive layouts, adequate contrast goals, and reduced-motion handling.
• An accessibility settings control for text scale, contrast, grayscale, underlined links, reduced motion, spacing, and focus highlighting.

Known exceptions and third parties

Some older documents, uploaded resources, images, embedded maps, forms, videos, payment tools, careers services, and other third-party content may not be fully controlled by Embu College. External services can also have separate accessibility support and may change without notice.

Assistive technology and navigation

The website is designed to work with common browsers, keyboard navigation, zoom, screen readers, and device accessibility features. Try headings, landmarks, the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, Enter or Space for controls, and browser zoom. If a component does not behave as expected, report the page and the action you were trying to complete.

Testing and improvement

We review new and changed interfaces through responsive checks, keyboard and focus checks, content review, and available automated or manual testing. Feedback from students, staff, visitors, and assistive-technology users helps us prioritise fixes. Accessibility improvements may be released incrementally rather than all at once.
